Happy Thanksgiving!

Church email Nov. 27, 2024

Hi New Life!

A very Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving to all! May we always be mindful of the Lords' great blessing upon the entirety of the USA and upon each of us individually. God is good, and He deserves all the praise, glory and honor!

As we gather at our various tables of fellowship tomorrow, may we be quick to offer the Lord the recognition He so rightly deserves. Remember 1 Thessalonians 5:18, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you". Perhaps the Lord will call upon you to share a thought or a word or a prayer with your loved ones on Thanksgiving Day.

For anyone in need of fellowship and dinner tomorrow, please know that Common Ground Ministries 194 Winter Street, will be serving a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner at their facilities from 10:30AM-1PM. Feel to join and to spead the word.

Below is the Proclamation of the first Thanksgiving given by President Abraham Lincoln on October 3, 1863. It is a stark reminder of our great need as a nation to remember, and to turn to the One who is the source of our many blessings.

Happy Thanksgiving!

All For Jesus!

Pastor Rick and Pamela

President Abraham Lincoln - Proclamation, October 3, 1863

"The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature that they cannot fail to penetrate and even soften the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever-watchful providence of Almighty God.

In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign states to invite and provoke their aggressions, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere, except in the theater of military conflict; while that theater has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.

Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defense have not arrested the plow, the shuttle, or the ship; the ax has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege, and the battlefield, and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised, nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.

It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American people. I do, therefore, invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a Day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens. And I recommend to them that, while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners, or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty hand to heal the wounds of the nation, and to restore it, as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes, to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility, and union."

"Suffering Saints" Sermon

Church e-mail sent July 3, 2024

Hello New Life!

Greetings and thank you for your attention to last Sunday's sermon, "Suffering Saints" taken from 1 Peter 4:12-19. Here is the outline:

"Suffering Saints"

 Expect Trials v12, James 1:2-3

Rejoice in Trials v13, 1 Thessalonians 5:16

Blessed in Trials v14, Matthew 5:11-12

Keep Trials Holy v15, 1 Peter 1:15

No Shame in Trials v16, Romans 1:16

Trials Judge Us v17, Hebrews12:7

Keep Trusting v19, Hebrews 11:6

In light of the application of these verses in our lives, please keep the following in mind:

1. Be thankful we live in the free world where expression of faith is protected by law.

2. Keep the "persecuted church" of today in your prayers.

3. Christians have a distinct responsibility to protect and stand up for their families and loved ones.

4. The attitude, disposition, and condition of the heart in doing so helps us judge our own Christian character and position in Christ.

5. We must keep trusting the Lord through our trials.

In reference to my statement on Sunday regarding an incident at our former place of ministry, the idea of defending my family was actually commendable and necessary. I was referring to the condition of my heart in that instance. My "judgement" was that the sentiment was correct but my heart was wounded. Rebuke, correction, and defense must be firm but also graceful. Christian maturity helps in these instances.

Please feel free to dialogue with me regarding this subject if necessary. Above all, stay close to the Lord!

All For Jesus!

Pastor Rick

a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed,

accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth."

Greetings!

Greetings!

Spring is finally here, and it looks like summer is not too far behind! Good things are happening at New Life these days. Please feel free to join us in person or on-line during our regularly scheduled services. Peruse this website to see our schedule, and as the Lord leads, join us!

Pentecost Sunday was a wonderful day of remembering the birth of the church, as well as a challenge to run after God and pursue our Pentecostal heritage. That message, and all messages can be found on this website under “New Life Media”; follow appropriate prompts. Also, you can go directly to our YouTube page “New Life Haverhill” and find all the services and happening there under “playlists”.

Stay close to Jesus! Hope to see you or hear from you soon. “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth: Acts 1:8. CHRISTMAS 2023!!

Merry Christmas!

Wishing all a very Merry Christmas and Wonderful and Happy New Year! Recently we shared a Sunday message entitled “The Songs of Christmas”, taken from Luke 1 and 2. No, we’re not talking about “Joy To The World”, “Silent Night” or “Hark The Herald Angels Sing”, although that would be a possibility! Neither are we talking about “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire”, Jingle Bells”, or Frosty The Snowman”! We are talking about four songs in the Word of God that best surmise the true story of Christmas.

  1. The Song of Mary, Luke 1:46-55, a sincere song of Humility

  2. The Song of Zacharias, Luke 1:68-79, a prophetic song of Salvation

  3. The Song of The Angels, Luke 2:13-14, a powerful song of Declaration

  4. The Song of Simeon, Luke 2:29-32, a thankful song of Affirmation

May we all find that special place of song in our hearts this year as we once again ponder the majesty of the Birth of Our Savior. Wow, God is soo GOOD! The backdrop for the above message is John 1, which explains the miraculous existence of Christ even before Bethlehem. The beauty, the power, the love, the supernatural, the foresight…all revealed in the true story ofChristmas.

Rejoice!! Emmanuel, GOD is with us!

All For Jesus,

Pastor Rick and Pamela

Wednesday Night In The Word!

Church e-mail, 10/31/23….

WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN THE WORD!

After contemplating the upcoming winter season and need for heat, and after consulting with the Lord, we have decided to announce the last "in-house" meeting of WNITW to be on Wednesday, November 8. Thereafter, WNITW will be Live-streamed only, as it was during the Covid years. Time will remain from 7-8PM.

Please plan now to set aside this special time for Bible study, fellowship and prayer. As many of you know, this venue has proven to be an effective way to communicate the Gospel and to connect with one another.

WNITW can be found on Facebook and/or Youtube each week by typing in"New Life Haverhill"in the search areas. If you need help in connecting to these media outlets, please let us know and we will assist you ASAP.

So, two more "in-house" meetings to go! Fellowship time will remain in place  starting at 6:15PM for the next two Wednesdays. We hope to resume "in-house" meetings in the Spring.

Building News!

Church Email 10/25/23

Hi New Life!

Greetings in Jesus Name! Just a quick update on some building repairs being done at the church. As you know the new windows for the sanctuary and front areas of the church have been ordered and are on the way. Their installation will be ASAP as soon as the finished product arrives from the manufacturing company. This upgrade will significantly help in the overall heating and air-conditioning costs that have skyrocketed over the past few years.

This week a new project is scheduled to begin. The front entrance area will be receiving much needed rehab in a new roof over the front porch, and new aluminum siding around the A-frame of the front door. Also, the exterior rear of the church has an old slate roof over the water baptism area, which at the request of our insurance company, will be replaced with a similar roof as the the rest of the building. Also, two additional small roofs in the rear of the building will be refurbirshed. Finally, the old steeple has two large triangular wooden frames that are in great need of painting. This will done, as well as aluminum siding installation around the top of that area. Additionally, one other dormer above the existing handicapped ramp will be repainted.

Thank you so much for your faithful contributions to our Building Fund. As you may remember, when Covid hit and we altered our plans not to proceed with a proposed new $6 million church building, the existing "Thrive" funds were placed in a high interest yielding account with the Assemblies of God. Over the past few years, this has proven to be a wonderful financial decision as this money has generated substantial interest which we are now utilizing for many needed renovations to our existing building.

Please continue to keep New Life in your prayers as we move forward in this "post-Covid" era. Like other churches across America, we are feeling the effects of a changing church culture and general decline in church attendance and participation. At the same time, Sunday Mornings, and Facebook and Youtube Livestreams, and Zoom meetings continue to play an important part in ministering the Word of God locally and nationally. We are continuing to do our best to keep up with the various trends and continue to minister the love of Jesus in a personal way throughout our community. We are happy to say that several new families and individuals have reached out to us for spiritual and personal help lately.

We do anticipate an uptick in church attendance this Fall and into the Christmas Season due to a growing spiritual hunger and the drawing power of the Holy Spirit. Please do pray for a sovereign move of God during this time. With so many troubles in the USA, an election year coming up, and the rising uneasiness and threat of major war in the Middle East with Israel at the center of it, many are looking for guidance and answers. As you know, that answer is found only through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Come ready to worship this Sunday, October 29 at 10AM as we host missionary Brenna Simonds and enjoy a time of food and fellowship following the service. Invite a friend. All are welcome!

All For Jesus!

Pastor Rick and Pamela

PS. Wednesday Night In The Word continues both in house and online each week at 7PM. See YOU tonight!

and we were all made to drink of one Spirit."

Projects!!

Church email Tuesday, September 5, 2023

Hi New Life!

We are happy to announce that the demolition of the old porch and construction of the new porch facing the church parking lot is scheduled to begin this week! Wednesday, Friday and Sunday we will be utilizing the front doors and the side door off the ramp on the other side of the church for entries and exits. This includes Wednesday Night in the Word, Sisterhood, and Sunday Morning service, September 6, 8 and 10.

As you pull into the parking lot you will notice building supplies and a large dumpster positioned near the playground. Please be careful when driving around that area.

Also, we are scheduled to have all the windows in the Sanctuary and Cafe and Nursery replaced within the next two weeks.  This project should be accomplished in just a few days and should not pose a problem for any services.

Thank the Lord for granting us the ability to move forward with these building projects. Thank you to all that have contributed to our Building Fund over the years. You may remember that the now defunct Thrive Building Campaign funds will be used for these and other building projects moving forward. It is good to finally see progress in these areas. Thank you New Life Advisory Committee for your help in setting this in place.

These are indeed busy days at New Life and we are looking forward to a great Sunday this week as Rev Bill Unger shares the Word. Make sure you are here, and invite a friend or loved one to accompany you. Now that summer is winding down, Labor Day weekend is over, and the children are back in school, things should settle down a bit at church. By "settle down" I mean things should be "alive and happening" at our services as regular members, as well as our continued stream of visitors settle in to regular attendance and participation each week.  Now is the time to focus on the Lord! He is so worthy of all our praise and attention and efforts.

Have a great rest of the week. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Please let us know if we can of any help, or if you are in need of prayer.

God bless you!

All For Jesus,

Pastor Rick and Pamela

"I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things to you so that, if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth."

E-letter Aug 7, 2023

Greetings New Life!

Trusting all is well with you in this second week of August! Before you know it, school will be opening after summer break and older students will be headed off to college. Many families are now cramming in their final attempt to "get away" for a weekend or a few days while summer is still with us.

Personally, I have found this summers' weather to be, well, unusual. Today for instance there was a major downpour of rain here in Haverhill followed by intense sun and humidity. Watching the news later, I discovered most of the east coast was adversely affected by tornado like weather, including Cape Cod. The scenes on the news seemed to me to be apocalyptic, meaning its looked like Jesus was trying to tell everybody something! Yes, I do believe that Jesus is trying to tell us something, and that is "get ready for you know not the day nor hour when the Son of Man will return" Luke 12:40. Church, we can never say the Lord didn't warn us. From weather, to shark attacks, to bizarre crimes and murders, to war and rumors of wars, and to religious persecutions. Jesus' return is written all over the current news.

In our Sunday preaching of Philippians, a few weeks ago we saw in chapter 4:5b the phrase, "the Lord is at hand". This verse just kind of snuck in there, among other important things Paul was saying. He, through the Holy Spirit, is reminding us that the Lord's return must be a part of our overall theology and philosophy of life. We must live as though each day we have on earth is a highly possible day of Jesus' return. And, THAT, will affect everything we do and everything we are.

Have a great rest of the summer. Stay safe and enjoy the nice days the Lord gives us. Stay plugged in to the New Life Services, both in-house and on livestream. Visit our website for the complete schedule of services.

Hope to see you soon at New Life! Let us know if we can be of any help you in the days and weeks ahead.

All For Jesus,

Pastor Rick and Pamela

"So let’s do it—full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching." This undertaking has almost doubled our attendance while maintaining a good correspondence with those online. TY James Carter and Steve Swanson for tending to the technical issues on Live-stream. Good reports all around!

Please make sure to join us this Sunday, May 21 at the 10AM Service as our dear brother in Christ, Bill Larios, shares the Word. Bill has been studying via the Southern New England Ministry Network School of the Bible and is well prepared to deliver the Word.

This service will, as usual, also be Live-streamed for those that can not attend in person. Please join us one way or the other!

Please let us know if you have any special prayer requests. Looking forward to a great week-end! Pray for the Holy Spirit to move powerfully at each service and for the the church to be filled with hungry hearts. Pray for salvations, healings deliverances and restorations. PS. Just a reminder that New Life Sunday Services are aired each Sunday on our local TV cable access channel, HC-Media, channel 22. Service times are 10AM and 8PM each week. TY Roseanne Bartlett for producing this wonderful outreach to the community!

"This is how God showed his love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."  1 John 4:9-11

National Day of Prayer

Yesterday, May 4, was the National Day Prayer in America. Locally, several churches and Christian groups united for a serious time of intercession for our nation and our community. Special thanks to Rev David Braxton, The River Church, Haverhill, and Rev Bill Spirdione, Common Ground Ministries, Haverhill for spearheading this event. I am certain the Lord heard us and took every prayer into consideration as He ministers His love, grace and conviction across the land.

I was asked to lead a prayer for the Church. Following is an outline of that prayer. This was one of the few times I sensed the Lord nudge me to jot down specific topics that we should pray for. Some of the prayer was highlighted by additional exclamations and insights I felt at the time. I could sense much agreement with the others present as this prayer was lifted up. Here it is in its basic form:

The Purpose of the Church: 1Timothy 3:14-15 "pillar and foundation of the truth"

Introduction: There are lies all around: re social order, morality, individualism, purpose - of life, of family, of church. But Jesus said….

~John 14:6 Jesus "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but through Me"

~John 18:37 Jesus "I have come to bear witness to the truth"

~John 18:38 Pilate answered, Q: "what is truth" A: Jesus, standing there, quietly...waiting to be whipped, beaten, humiliated, tortured, taken away, ready to lay His life down for the sins of the world. Jesus answered by demonstrating His love and dying on a wooden cross for us. He paid the ultimate sacrifice for our redemption and salvation. That's the truth. That's what we're called to proclaim and protect...."the pillar and foundation of the truth"

Prayer:

  • God, use Your Church as a beacon of light and joy to a world that is searching for answers

  • Jesus, give your pastors keen wisdom and insight that is in tune with your Spirit so they would never lose sight of the mission of Your Church

  • Lord, open hearts in the Church to care for people outside the church, to be praying for them and to become visibly and tangibly concerned and helping them in needs and struggles

  • Bring a focus for exalting You above all else, to pastors, church staff, volunteers and lay leaders

  • Stir the Holy Spirit among the body to actively participate in discipling one another in Scripture

  • Father, burden the Church with urgency to share the Gospel with passion and the power of the Spirit

  • Remind us to eagerly look for ways to use our time, talents, and treasures to build up the Body of Christ

  • Your Church that is expressed in different ways in this community: the Catholics, Protestants; main line and independent churches; English speaking, Spanish speaking, Portuguese speaking, any other speaking groups. Greek Orthodox, Baptist, Congregational, Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Evangelical churches....to proclaim unashamedly, the Truth of Jesus Christ.

*Unity in essentials: John 17:22 "be one as Jesus and the Father are one"

*Integrity: 1 Peter 2:11 "free of fleshly lusts; conduct ourselves honorably"

* "rejoice in truth" not shun the truth 1 Corinthians 14:6

*Continue: Colossians 2:6-8 "As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ."

*Fulfill the Great Commandment "love You with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength; and the Great Commission "Preach You to all the world, discipling, teaching, baptizing in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit"

*For the para-church ministries in town: feed the poor, cloth the naked, visit the prisons, help the needy, love our youth...

~Leaving the Streets, Community Christian Fellowship, Common Ground Ministries, Salvation Army, New Brothers fellowship

~Church of America to arise...for such a time as this. For hunger for You and conviction by Your Spirit to rain down on us. We would truly be the Light to the lost You called us to be.

1 Timothy 3:13-14 "...the Church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the Truth" would be busy about Your business..as we await Your soon return.

In Jesus' Name..

New Winds Are Blowing!

Greetings New Life!

Trusting all is well! Here is some great news: 2023 is off to a great start! In the first three months of the year we have had over 50 first time visitors attend Sunday Morning Services. This is wonderful news! We have been encouraging our regular members and attendees to make sure to extend the “right hand of fellowship” to the newcomers (Galatians 2:9) each and every week. Let’s pray that the Lord will help those seeking a church home will be led by the Holy Spirit to just the right one for them. If it is New Life, well, we will have some good work a head of us!

Reminder: Wednesday Night In The Word returns to the New Life Sanctuary on Wednesday, April 12, 7-8PM. The WNITW Live-stream will continue as usual, at Facebook and Youtube at New Life Haverhill. We will evaluate how things are going after a few months and make appropriate plans at that time.

Please join us for the various Easter Events at New life this year. See “events” for details.

Keep praying for New Life to be the place the Lord truly wants it to be! And, join us on Sunday Mornings!

Revival Fires

Greetings!

We are hearing good reports of Revival Fires springing up in many different colleges and churches here in the USA. This is great news! Here are a few thoughts to consider as we trust the Lord to do what He wants during this special time.

  1. Revival must include personal repentance and desire for holiness.

  2. Revival typically happens for the church “to be revived” but many times, revival includes focusing on the lost and offering salvation to all that need it.

  3. Revival, historically, includes conderation of the Lord’s eminent return.

  4. Revival often utilizes praise, worship, prayer, and preaching to help people draw near to the Lord.

  5. Revival is God’s way of releasing His Holy Spirit to bring forth change, maturity, hunger, and consecration within the Body of Christ.

  6. Revival changes people and communities.

  7. Revival is needed!

"For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: 'I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.'" Isaiah 57:15

Hope to see YOU at New Life pursuing the Lord and His Holiness during our regular and special services. See schedule for specifics.

Accountabillty

FACEBOOK POST, December 6, 2022….From Pastor Rick.

ACCOUNTABILITY IS NOT A BAD WORD. In Christian Ministry it is imperative for pastors, leaders, board members, ministry heads to be held accountable for what they say, what they do, and for who they are publically and privately. In the Pentecostal branch of the Church when someone "gives a word" to someone and it does not bear witness with the pastor or leaders or the person receiving it and is addressed, it should be heeded and acccepted as a mistake and apologized for. Other pastors from other churches should be supportive of that decision. Additionally when someone is "called into ministry" there should be an understanding that until these matters are resolved, there should be no "sending out". Unfulfilled "words", whether to an individual or to a community must be rectified before moving forward. It is a fearful thought that new pastors are heading up new churches with an unresolved history of hurt, abuses, and rebellion. It is time, in these "last days" for men and women of God to hold fast to the Biblical standard of accountability and ask the tough questions, have the face to face meetings, and respect and honor the elders of the church. Sin thrives where there is no accountability.
